"Use it! Danish Design" Exhibition
"Use it! Danish Design in Everyday Life" is a snapshot of Danish design 2005, where visitors can try out all the items on display and play their way through thematic rooms. Originally the exhibition has five thematic rooms, but for practical reasons the exhibition in Hong Kong will have three thematic rooms. The exhibition is a new take on the nature and capabilities of Danish design. 90 products - from 1660-2005 - have been selected based on a curation process that gave priority to all kinds of design: Fashion, products, modern digital graphic design etc. Selected contemporary designers have pointed to their sources of inspiration and role models from the Danish design tradition. All design is in production, all design is able to buy, and all design is used in everyday life.

KAJ FRANCK TODAY OPENING IN CHINA
An extensive overview of contemporary Finnish design due to open in China

The designer Kaj Franck (1911-1989) is known for his unaffected, functionalist and versatile output. His works represent the absolute pinnacle of Finnish design. Franck maintained that the work of the designer calls for a long-term process of generating concepts and ideas. As a member of the faculty of the University of Art and Design Helsinki, he had significant influence on several generations of Finnish designers. Kaj Franck taught prominent contemporary designers and his ideas still influence the works of the young generation.

Assembled by Design Forum, the exhibition Kaj Franck today presents a number of leading Finnish designs in various fields of applied art and industrial design, telling of their relationship with Kaj Franck's world of design through their own works and thoughts.

The exhibition also features works by Kaj Franck as selected by the participating designers and as a cross-section of his oeuvre. Franck did not establish any school or ideology, but rather an approach to design:

"I did not seek form for form's sake. Instead I studied the basic function - purpose - of plain peasant artefacts. Thus, the core idea and not the form became the starting point of my work in design."
Kaj Franck

The exhibition features classics of the future designed to be used by people today. Included are the works of designers who have received the Kaj Franck Design Prize as well as products by young designers. The participants are Anna Danielsson, Fujiwo Ishimoto, Harri Koskinen, Antti Kotilainen, Yrj? Kukkapuro, Jarmo Lehtonen, Eero Miettinen, Vuokko Nurmesniemi, Kerttu Nurminen, Heikki Orvola, Ritva-Liisa Pohjalainen, Ritva Puotila, Anneli Sainio, Pirkko Stenros, Paola Suhonen, Oiva Toikka, Tonfisk Design, Jorma Vennola and Risto V??t?nen.

The popular Kaj Franck Today exhibition was on show at Design Forum during the summer of 2003, after which it toured several venues abroad. Updated and including the Kaj Frank Design Prize works of 2003 and 2004, the exhibition will be on show in Beijing, Canton, Shanghai and Hong Kong in China, from where it will continue its international tour.
